10 Meals for $10.00 each

I decided to make this post this week because I found my self short on money for food this past week and thought it would be helpful for other people that find there self low on money as well.
Some of these meals I learned from my Mother and some I have found over the years in Recipe books.
  1. Maple Sausage And Rice: calories 472 = 1 &1/2 cup of rice and sausage mix.
1 lb fully cooked Polish sausage or kielbasa sliced = $3.00
1 teaspoon olive oil or any oil you have on hand
1 large green bell pepper, thinly sliced long ways = $1.00
1 large onion, thinly sliced, long ways = $1.00
1 pice of celery sliced = $2.00 (for whole thing of celery that can be used in other things.)
2 tablespoons maple syrup.
1/4 teaspoon black pepper and salt
1 box brown or white rice = $1.50 (only cook what you need of the box for your family)
in pan cook sausage with oil until lighly browned add vegetables cook until veggi are tender. stir in maple syrup, pepper and salt cook 3 min and serve over rice.
This meal takes about 20 min to make. it will feed 6 people and total cost is about $8.50 depending on where you shop.
  • 2   CHICKEN PASTA: cook time 30min
1 box spg noodles =$ .69
3 boneless chicken breast cut in 1/2 then into bite size chunks = $3.00
2 teaspoons cajun seasoning
4 teaspoons olive oil or oil
1 cup fresh mushrooms sliced = $1.50
1/2 cup sliced onions and bell pepper = $2.00
1 small can mushroom soup = $1.00
1/2 cup of milk
1 bunch of fresh green beans( cook and serve on the side) = $1.50
In pan cook box of spg until done then drain water, place back into pot.
sprinkle uncooked chicken with cajun seasoning and a little salt and pepper, in skillet with oil cook until done add sliced mushrooms,onions,bell pepper and celery cook until tender pour into pot of drained spg add mushroom soup and milk stir and mix well, cook on low heat until nice and warm.
Will feed 8 to 10 people, total cost: $9.69
  • 3   ITALIAN SOUP:  Calories 213, 1 and 1/2 cup serving
1 lb package of susage = $2.00
1 can chicken broth = $1.00
1 cup water
1 or 2 cups cubed peeled potatoes = $3.00  (5lb bag)  only need  2 or 3
1/4 cup diced carrot = $ 1.00
1/4 cup chopped onion= $1.00
dash garlic salt
1/4 cup broken uncooked spaghetti =$ .69
crumble sausage into skillet cook until no longer pink then dran.
add chicken broth,water, veggies and seasonings. Bring to a boil reduce heat add spaghetti and simmer for 10min. or until veggies are tender.
makes 4 to 6 servings: cook time 45min. Total cost $8.69

  • 6   HONEY BAKED CHICKEN BREAST
  • 7  MEAT BALL SUBS
  • 8  MEAT LOAF AND  BAKED POTATOE
  • 9  BEAN SOUP AND CORN BREAD
  • 10 CHICKEN LASAGNA
I could go on for days with 10 dallor meals but I will stop here and post more some other time.
you will see that I only posted a few of these meals with recipes, I thought that everyone knows how to make the rest of them, But if you don't then please post and I will e-mail or blog the recipes. Poor Mans Chili
1 large can of  V8 juice
2 lbs ground beef
2 cans pork and beans
1 onion
1 green bell pepper
4 tablespoons chili powder ( or add more if you like it spicy
Directions:
Cook ground beef, onions and green bell pepper until the meat is cooked.
Drain and pour beef into a 3 quart pan, add V8 juice and chili powder.
cook on medium until it bubbles, stir turn down on low and cook 30 minutes
makes 8 servings

Four Bean Chili
4 kinds of dried beans ( pinto,garbanzo,kidney and navy beans ) 1/2 lb. each
2 lbs lean ground beef
1 large onion chopped
2 tablespoon olive oil
2 cloves garlic finely chopped
2 jalapeno peppers, seeded and finely chopped
2 tsp cider vinegar
1  14 ounce can tomatoes cut up
1  15 ounce can tomato sauce
1-2 tablespoons chili powder
2 tsp ground cumin
2 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup honey
Directions:
soak beans overnight in water, keeping refrigerated. Simmer in the soaking water until beans are tender 1 -2 hours. When done drain Liquid and save. Set aside.
Cook beef in large fry pan until browned; remove from pan. Add onionand olive oil to pan; cook stirring occasionally, until onion is brown add garlic, jalapeno peppers and vinegar; cook 1 minute. add meat, tomato sauce, tomatoes and 1 cup bean liquid; stir to mix.
Add chili powder, cumin, oregano and salt; stir in honey.
Put one quarter of drained cooked beans in a 3 quart baking dish; pour one quarter of meat mixture over top; repaeat, ending with meat sauce
Bake in oven a 350 oven for 2 hours
Makes 8 to 10 servings
